Two More Weeks

Dustin and I are officially two weeks away from piling into his Volvo 240 wagon and starting our two day trip to Haines to catch the ferry to Bellingham. I'm super nervous and my mind is racing with all the things that need to get done before then, and every once in a while I catch myself thinking "let's just sell my car, and fly to Salt Lake, that would be so much easier.". Then I remember that the whole point of driving from Alaska to Utah (even though we're not quite brave enough to drive the Alcan highway in the middle of winter) is because it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see parts the U.S. and Canada that we wouldn't otherwise. I've lived in Alaska a little over four years and I've never been to or seen the eastern interior, or southeast, so although the drive from Anchorage to Haines is mostly just wilderness, I'm still looking forward to seeing it in all it's wild, rugged beauty.

We've decided that in the spirit of trying to enjoy the incredible travel opportunity this move has given us, we're going to give ourselves at least a week to drive from Bellingham to Salt Lake. Dustin and I both have friends and family in the Pacific Northwest we'd like to visit as well as fun, tourist-y things we want to do. We popped all the places we wanted to visit into MapQuest (that's still a thing!) and this is the route we want to take: Bellingham, Vacouver, Seattle, Beaverton/Portland, Eugene, Klamath Falls, then Boise, and on to Salt Lake.

Vancouver is definitely not on the way to Salt Lake, but since it's so close to Bellingham we figure it's worth a quick drive to Canada to explore a new city and score some (close, but not quite real) poutine. I've already started making pages for my planner, listing out activities and sights in each of the cities we're going to be going to, so we know ahead of time what there is to do. I'm going to have at least one page for each major city that we visit. So far I only have Seattle and part of Vancouver done, but I want to have pages finished for Portland, Eugene, and Boise by Wednesday next week. Detailed budgets for each city are next on my To Do list, after I finish the itinerary sheets. I wish I had done this for our trip to San Antonio, we could have saved a lot of money and done a lot more with our time there.

I'm a Happy Planner kind of girl

I promise not all my posts are going to be boring and about planning stuff (until wedding planning starts, then sorry I'm not sorry). I'm really looking forward to posting lots of pictures when we actually start our trip!
