First Week Jitters
This past Monday I started my new job in the world's most most laid back call center. When I interviewed I was told that the dress code was casual, but still look nice. So for my first day I dressed with a nice pair of pants, cardigan and flats. I walk in and I see people in torn jeans, hoodies, and there was some guy wearing basketball shorts. So in my training class the instructor tells us that the dress is actually super casual, as long as you're not in really ratty, nasty, old clothes or pajamas, you're fine. I'm super excited about the dress code, one of my main concerns with working in an office was having to buy an entirely new business casual wardrobe. Here I get to wear my regular clothes and not stress to much about what I can and can't wear to work.
I think my first week at work was a success. I made two new friends on my first day, which is practically unheard of for me because I'm terrible at socializing. The software I'm going to be doing tech support for is actually really cool, and I'm a little disappointed I won't get to use it in an actual office setting. The training period is five weeks, because we need to know the software inside an out in order to troubleshoot it for clients. This past week I learned about claims and procedure codes and some billing things I either didn't know or had a very basic understanding of. I'm honestly really excited to learn more about the program, it looks really interesting.
I think the only drawback to my new job is where it is. It's in South Jordan, a 25-30 minute commute in the mornings, and 30-50 in the evenings. They offer a discounted monthly transit pass, and I'm seriously considering paying for it. It's $50 a month, but I spend almost $40 on a single tank of gas every week and a half, so by the second tank it would pay for itself. I don't know for sure yet, I'm waiting to see what my first paycheck looks like before I decide anything.
I'm looking forward to really getting in to my new job, and seeing what the next few months hold for Dustin and me. We want to plan some hiking and camping trips with a few friends, and go to some concerts over the summer.
