Big Steps

I'm so grateful that Dustin and I got engaged a full two years before we intended to get married, so wedding planning hasn't been a huge priority right now. However, Dustin's parents have been visiting us this past week (Hi Yolande! Hi Mark!) so we decided to take the opportunity to look at some potential wedding venues with all the parents present.

I sent some emails to a few locations Dustin and I had talked about, and set up an appointment to look at Log Haven first on Saturday. Log Haven was a bit of a pipe dream, I saw pictures of it before we even got to Utah and I fell in love, but I had been told by multiple people that it was really expensive. I wanted to see it anyways, just out of curiosity. We drove three miles up Millcreek Canyon to the restaurant and it was just gorgeous. It's tucked away in the canyon in the forest, with a waterfall and natural spring. I can only imagine how stunning it would look in the winter time. We took a tour, and the whole place was exactly what Dustin and I were looking for; woodsy, cozy, and with a character all it's own. We pretty much fell in love. We didn't want to commit to the first location we looked at though, so we drove down the road to Millcreek Inn and took a peek there, but we didn't like it quite as much as Log Haven.

Over the next few days I received emails back from Memorial House (another venue we considered), as well as a price quote for Millcreek Inn, and turns out that Log Haven is actually the least expensive venue, with the most value for what it costs. So we paid the deposit to hold November 8th, 2019 as our date. I'm over the moon excited that we not only have a set date, but also a venue. From here everything else should be pretty easy. Log Haven's cost includes a wedding planner/organizer, so all I have to do is find my vendors, pass their information to the organizer, and she takes care of everything else. I'm so beyond happy that I don't have to stress myself out over coordinating vendors and venue, since that was a big source of my worry.

Mark and Yolande's whole visit with us wasn't spent just doing wedding things, we went out on a 4x4 trip in the Mill Canyon Complex by Heber and Midway on Friday for a few hours. After the 4x4s we had lunch at Wasatch Brewpub in Park City. We also went to the Great Salt Lake (it was hot and there were gnats everywhere, 2/10 do not recommend), Temple Square, and Gracie's for dinner, drinks, and some music.

It's been a really eventful and exciting week, I'm looking forward to writing more as we really get into wedding planning in the next few months.
