A Baker, A Florist, And A Seamstress
January has been an incredibly busy month in terms of wedding planning. The first Saturday of the month Ashley and I went to the bridal expo to gather information and talk to potential vendors. I forgot that they usually have food/cake samples, so we made the mistake of eating breakfast before going. They had a wedding fashion show for gowns, suits, and dresses and it was so cringey in the best way possible. You could tell it hadn't really been rehearsed ahead of time, some girls were stopping for too long to pose, others weren't at all so they would bump into each other. Ashley and I were only able to watch for 10, maybe 15 minutes before we had to leave. Overall it was a successful afternoon and we got a lot of good ideas.
The next Saturday Dustin and I went wedding cake tasting and decided on a flavor, and have a pretty good idea which bakery we'll be using. We also have come to the conclusion that we want a naked cake with just our flowers for decoration - it's not fussy, over-the-top, or overly complicated. We also want a naked cake because as much as I love fondant (it's just edible Playdoh, how could you not love it?), Dustin isn't the biggest fan of it, and I know that neither are a lot of other people. A wedding is just as much for our guests as it is for us, especially in the food/cake department.
Saturday the 19th was also filled with wedding related activities, we had a consultation with a florist who was so nice and had so many amazing ideas. The company has been in business for something like 50 years, and they're one of Log Haven's preferred vendors. We put down a 50% deposit to hold our date and called it a day.
Thursday before last I had a fitting appointment for my gown to see how and where it needed to be altered to fit me properly. Having a fitting appointment meant that I had a week and some change to find my wedding shoes, because I hadn't actually really given much thought to what shoes I would wear. I thought about buying a pair of white snowboots and being done with it, but I'm not terribly graceful in boots. I ended up finding a pair of white Imagine Vince Camuto heels that match my dress perfectly. The heels also make me about four inches taller so that's a bonus. Until the fitting I was nervous that I hadn't picked the right dress, that I didn't actually love it as much as I thought I did when I bought it. When I put it back on at the bridal shop it sealed the deal that I chose the perfect dress, I have no regrets. My dress will need to be altered though, namely the hem needs to be brought up about four inches (curse my short stature), and the bodice needs to come in about an inch. The idea of adding lace sleeves to my dress was thrown around, I'm a little on the fence about it, but I think it could look so pretty and season appropriate. I have until at least May to decide what I want to do, so there's plenty of time.
Overall wedding planning hasn't been nearly as stressful as I thought, and we've gotten a lot done ahead of time. So far I'm cautiously confident at where we are in the process.
