Wedding Reflections
Sooo as is now my ~style~, I'll start by saying I'm terrible at this writing blog posts thing. But to be fair, the last three months of 2019 were hectic and I am so glad to be done them. Dustin and I have spent January catching our breath and relaxing, because I might have taken a few months off my life with the stress of wedding, honeymoon, and moving. Between November and end of December we:
Got married
Went on our honeymoon
Packed our apartment
Celebrated Thanksgiving in two separate households
Moved
Unpacked
Built an entire apartment's worth of new furniture
Changed my name
Celebrated Christmas in two separate households
Hosted a housewarming party
Celebrated New Years

I am POOPED and have been thoroughly enjoying not having any major commitments or plans for the next few months. At least not until May when we go to Europe (!!!)
The wedding was everything I could have hoped for and more. With the exception of a few small hiccups (a fainting groomsman, toasts, lap dances, torn pants, you know, just the usual) the whole day went according to plan. The bus for the families was on time, the ceremony was amazing, the food was delicious, the music was exactly what we wanted, and the getaway car was just a dream. Whenever I think of our wedding day I am filled with so much love and happy feelings at the thought of sharing the day with my favorite people. One of my favorite things to do when I'm feeling a little down is to look through all 700 (!) wedding photos we got back from our photographer. Instant mood boost. If I could, I would relive that day a million times over.
I was initially very hesitant at the idea of doing a "first look", mostly because I felt that they were a trendy fad, and I had disliked the first look shoots I had seen of other weddings. However, because we got married in November in the evening, by the time the ceremony was over there wouldn't be enough light to get pictures together as a couple outdoors. I caved, and honestly, I'm so glad I did. It was such a special, quiet moment that I genuinely cherish. Dustin and I are both very private people, and being able to have the moment of seeing each other for the first time be just for us was exactly what we wanted after all. And of course, I couldn't help but get the quintessential "Alaskan bride" pictures with my Xtra Tuf boots under my dress.
Anyone who knows me and Dustin knows that we are not dancers, we're not usually out to be the center of attention, but we both knew that our wedding night was a very unique situation. We had a little bit of liquid courage and put on our best show of dancing, though it wasn't for long. It's probably for the best we didn't dance too much though because Dustin was inducted into a very special club that night. The elite group of men who have torn pants at weddings. And surprisingly enough, the tear wasn't even on a seam, it was smack in the middle of a cheek. But our friends and family did more than enough dancing for the two of us, and I was content to watch, a heart full of love. I honestly think my favorite moments were watching both families (and the photographer Michael) line dance while Dustin's dad took pictures with Michael's camera.
I think back on the venue and all the small details that really came together and made our wedding so uniquely us, and I am so happy that we decided on the vendors that we did. I do not have a single regret about any of the people that had such an important hand in making our wedding a reality. Log Haven was amazing to work with and very communicative, our photographer Michael Cozzens was easy to talk to and gave us so many pictures to remember the evening, Every Blooming Thing brought my vague idea for florals to life, Russ from Sqwuak Box Sound helped us solidify our ideas for music, and connected us to DJ Josh and a translator for the Spanish speaking family, Granite Bakery created a cake we loved so much we sampled it twice. Genuinely, I'm so grateful for the hard work everyone put in to bring everything together, and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome.
For the honeymoon, we went to an island paradise in Mexico, but I don't have many pictures since I tried to spend my time enjoying the trip and being present in the moment.
There are so many other things that have happened since the wedding, but I think those will warrant their own post.
