Wedding Reflections

Image
Sooo as is now my ~style~, I'll start by saying I'm terrible at this writing blog posts thing. But to be fair, the last three months of 2019 were hectic and I am so glad to be done them. Dustin and I have spent January catching our breath and relaxing, because I might have taken a few months off my life with the stress of wedding, honeymoon, and moving. Between November and end of December we: Got married Went on our honeymoon Packed our apartment Celebrated Thanksgiving in two separate households Moved Unpacked Built an entire apartment's worth of new furniture Changed my name Celebrated Christmas in two separate households Hosted a housewarming party Celebrated New Years I am POOPED and have been thoroughly enjoying not having any major commitments or plans for the next few months. At least not until May when we go to Europe (!!!) The wedding was everything I could have hoped for and more. With the exception of a few small hiccups (a fainting gr...

Only Mildly Sorry

I've said it once (actually it's been like four times now, but whatever) and I'll say it again - I am absolutely terrible at blogging. It's been a combination of nothing really notable happening in terms of wedding planning, and also I've forgotten because I have a terrible memory and I'm only mildly sorry. So here's a brief run down: We bought our wedding bands in April and they are so gorgeous together. I'm so excited to be able to wear mine. Every weekend in May was spent doing one thing or another with Dustin before he left on TDY. We rented an Air BnB downtown and went out on a ~wild~ date night (it wasn't, we're boring). We booked our officiant and finalized the ceremony script !!!  Dustin got fitted for his tux and he looks so  good. Dustin was supposed to fly out to Italy on the 20th. He didn't. They told him he would fly out the 21st. He didn't again. They hold him he would fly out the 22nd. He actually did leave then. I ...

A Baker, A Florist, And A Seamstress

January has been an incredibly busy month in terms of wedding planning. The first Saturday of the month Ashley and I went to the bridal expo to gather information and talk to potential vendors. I forgot that they usually have food/cake samples, so we made the mistake of eating breakfast before going. They had a wedding fashion show for gowns, suits, and dresses and it was so cringey in the best way possible. You could tell it hadn't really been rehearsed ahead of time, some girls were stopping for too long to pose, others weren't at all so they would bump into each other. Ashley and I were only able to watch for 10, maybe 15 minutes before we had to leave. Overall it was a successful afternoon and we got a lot of good ideas. The next Saturday Dustin and I went wedding cake tasting and decided on a flavor, and have a pretty good idea which bakery we'll be using. We also have come to the conclusion that we want a naked cake with just our flowers for decoration - it's not...

Wedding Stress Has Started

My brother had his wedding in early October (I’m super late to post, because I’m terrible) and it was such a good time. Most of my extended family on my mom’s side came in to town, so at our peak there were 13-15 people staying with my parents. I was so nice to have everyone together again for a happy reason. The ceremony itself was beautiful, the vows my brother and Danielle wrote were lovely and really showed how much they care for each other and have grown together over the last nine years. I was lucky enough to be a part of their special day and I’m so happy I got to be there and celebrate with them. I’m also very happy to have a sister-in-law. With most of my aunts and female cousins in town, I figured that the days after the ceremony but before they left might be a good time to go look at wedding dresses. I’d already been looking at dresses for a while, and I had a specific designer in mind that I really liked. So nine of us piled in to a teeny bridal boutique in Bountifu...

In Which I'm a Grown-Ass Adult

I’ve been really terrible about blogging, I know. A lot has happened since I last wrote, but none of it felt particularly exciting or blog-worthy, even though it might have been. I’m convinced that no one reads these, no one cares, my writing is terrible. I’ve written at least three posts since my last one in July, but I’ve deleted all of them. I’m trying to get better and to see this more as a record of what’s going on in my life so I can look back on it later. Since July; I turned 26 in August and I feel weird about it, like it’s still not quite sunk in. I went out with friends for the night and had a good time. I only got some pictures of Dustin and I, I wish I had gotten at least one of the whole group. Birthday shenanigans at Tinwell Dustin went on a TDY to Tucson for two weeks. The first three days I got to stretch out as much as I liked in bed, the next nine days I had to sleep in an empty bed. The novelty of having a whole queen sized bed to myself wore off r...

Big Steps

I'm so grateful that Dustin and I got engaged a full two years before we intended to get married, so wedding planning hasn't been a huge priority right now. However, Dustin's parents have been visiting us this past week (Hi Yolande! Hi Mark!) so we decided to take the opportunity to look at some potential wedding venues with all the parents present. I sent some emails to a few locations Dustin and I had talked about, and set up an appointment to look at Log Haven first on Saturday. Log Haven was a bit of a pipe dream, I saw pictures of it before we even got to Utah and I fell in love, but I had been told by multiple people that it was really  expensive. I wanted to see it anyways, just out of curiosity. We drove three miles up Millcreek Canyon to the restaurant and it was just gorgeous. It's tucked away in the canyon in the forest, with a waterfall and natural spring. I can only imagine how stunning it would look in the winter time. We took a tour, and the whole place...

First Week Jitters

Image
This past Monday I started my new job in the world's most most laid back call center. When I interviewed I was told that the dress code was casual, but still look nice. So for my first day I dressed with a nice pair of pants, cardigan and flats. I walk in and I see people in torn jeans, hoodies, and there was some guy wearing basketball shorts. So in my training class the instructor tells us that the dress is actually super  casual, as long as you're not in really ratty, nasty, old clothes or pajamas, you're fine. I'm super excited about the dress code, one of my main concerns with working in an office was having to buy an entirely new business casual wardrobe. Here I get to wear my regular clothes and not stress to much about what I can and can't wear to work. I think my first week at work was a success. I made two new friends on my first day, which is practically unheard of for me because I'm terrible at socializing. The software I'm going to be doing te...
